Empowering Israel’s Largest Seaport: DEX Deploys VMware Stretched Cluster at Ashdod Port
Direct Experts | July 14, 2021
Ashdod Port, Israel’s largest and most vital maritime gateway, needed a resilient, high-availability IT infrastructure to meet modern threats, from natural disasters to cyber-attacks. That’s where Direct Experts (DEX) stepped in.
Project Overview
- Enhanced Resilience with Zero Downtime
In a strategic upgrade, DEX, alongside Ashdod Port’s IT team, deployed a VMware 6.5 Stretched Cluster across two geographically separated data centers, creating a fully synchronized, active-active system that maintains continuous operations even during maintenance or localized failures. - Modernized Storage & Redundancy
The project also included upgrades to the storage (EMC-based) and server infrastructure (HPE), enabling full redundancy with real-time data synchronization ensuring business continuity and high availability. - Seamless Disaster Recovery
A third, geographically isolated data center was integrated using VMware Site Recovery Manager. This setup enables seamless failover in case of catastrophic events, simplifying disaster recovery without disrupting operations. - Flawless Execution
Remarkably, all this was achieved without any downtime or noticeable impact on port operations a testament to DEX’s precise planning and execution in a highly operational environment.
Why This Matters
The maritime sector demands continuous operation there’s no room for IT failure in a 24/7, high-stakes logistics environment. By implementing an advanced VMware architecture with real-time failover and redundancy, DEX ensured Ashdod Port is equipped to handle both sudden disruptions and long-term growth with confidence.
